Improving the management of surplus materials through better data

At Barratt Redrow, we’re strengthening our approach to circular construction by introducing a consistent, data led way to manage materials across our operations.
From this month, we’ll begin capturing data on excavated materials (particularly surplus soils and aggregates) across our sites and supply chain in a central system, giving us better visibility, stronger compliance and – most importantly – more insight on real world reuse.
This will help us to:
- use materials more efficiently by reducing avoidable disposal of excess soils and aggregates and reliance on landfill
- track and manage material flows across sites and between supply chain partners, increasing opportunities for reuse
- strengthen compliance, reporting and performance tracking through improved data visibility
- reduce cost, haulage requirements, and carbon emissions
After reviewing a range of proven technologies, we’ve selected Nexus ReGen to implement create a nationwide materials exchange platform.
Over time, this will also help us build a robust baseline for soils and excavation data, supporting future reduction and reuse targets and unlocking longer term value through a broader supplier network.
Jonathan Watkin, Group Commercial Director, said: “By embedding a single materials intelligence approach across our projects and supply chain, we can make better decisions earlier, increase reuse and make a more circular approach to materials the norm across the Group.”
This is a practical step forward in how we manage resources – using better data to deliver long term cost efficiencies and carbon reductions at scale.
